The Mobile Bar Foundation is the charitable outreach and affiliate of the Mobile Bar Association. The Foundation is a “Section 501( c)(3)” (Internal Revenue Code) organization, which is exempt from the payment of income taxes and contributions to the Foundation qualify for charitable contribution status with the United States Internal Revenue Service.  The Foundation was established in 1994 with the stated purpose of “accumulating sufficient funds to be used for the betterment and good of our community.” Its mission is to support programs that improve the legal system, the administration of justice, and otherwise promote the betterment of the legal profession and the local community.

The primary sources of funds for the Foundation are the annual membership donations paid by members of the Mobile Bar Association. Various membership levels are available according to the amount donated. Other sources of funds include various fundraisers and contributions from supporting individuals and organizations. The Tri the Gulf triathlon is the Foundation’s primary annual fundraiser.

Per the terms of its charter, the Foundation is required to distribute 80 percent of its income from the previous year to qualified entities.
